There are two main ways to perform Hajj from Nigeria: through your state’s pilgrims’ welfare board at the official fare set by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), or with a private tour operator licensed by NAHCON. Nigerians living abroad have a third set of options. This guide explains each route, what Hajj 2027 costs, and the requirements and deadlines to plan around.
Hajj 2027 at a glance
- When: Hajj 1448 is expected around 15 to 16 May 2027 (the Day of Arafah), depending on the moon sighting.
- Nigeria’s places: Saudi Arabia has allocated Nigeria 60,000 places for 2027: an initial 50,000, plus 10,000 more approved in October 2026.
- Official fares: from about ₦7.56 million to ₦7.88 million, depending on where you fly from (table below).
- Payment deadline: NAHCON has told state boards to remit all fares by 2 December 2026, with no extension.
Official NAHCON Hajj fares
NAHCON announced the 2027 fares on 14 August 2026. They’re slightly lower than the revised 2026 fares.
| Departure zone | Hajj 2027 fare | Hajj 2026 fare (revised) |
|---|---|---|
| Maiduguri and Yola (Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Taraba) | ₦7,560,822 | ₦7,579,021 |
| Other northern states | ₦7,672,822 | ₦7,696,770 |
| Southern states | ₦7,882,822 | ₦7,991,142 |
Fares are set in naira but depend heavily on the exchange rate, because accommodation, transport and services in Saudi Arabia are paid in riyals and dollars. In 2026 NAHCON revised its fares after first announcing them.
Route 1: through your state pilgrims’ welfare board
This is the route most Nigerian pilgrims take.
- Register with your State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board (or agency or commission) and pay the deposit it asks for. NAHCON has asked intending pilgrims for a ₦5 million deposit for 2027, though some states set their own figure.
- Pay the balance of the fare before your state’s deadline. States must pay NAHCON by 2 December 2026.
- Complete your documents and medical screening with the board, which uploads your details to Saudi Arabia’s systems.
- Travel with your state’s group on the flight schedule NAHCON arranges.
If you’d rather save gradually, NAHCON’s Hajj Savings Scheme lets you save towards the fare with partner banks (Jaiz, Taj, Alternative and Lotus). Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis once you’ve saved the full fare.
Route 2: a licensed private tour operator
Private operators hold part of Nigeria’s allocation: 15,000 places for 2027, plus 2,500 of the extra places. Private package prices vary widely and are often higher than the official fare, and they usually offer more choice of hotels, smaller groups and extra services.
A private Hajj package typically includes flights and the Hajj visa, hotels in Makkah and Madinah, transport, your tent at Mina and Arafat, and service charges. Some include the sacrifice (qurbani) and meals; others don’t, so compare carefully.
Before you pay any operator:
- Check the licence. NAHCON publishes its list of licensed tour operators. An operator should be licensed for the year you’re travelling.
- Ask for the full price and the refund policy in writing. Licensed operators must disclose both.
- Confirm your registration. NAHCON advises pilgrims who book privately to check with their operator that their details and biometrics have been uploaded.
- Ignore anyone selling “special” slots. NAHCON has warned about people posing as its staff and asking for money to guarantee a place. Pay only official amounts, through your state board, a Hajj Savings Scheme bank or a licensed operator.

Options for Nigerians living abroad
- In Canada, the US or the UK on a Nigerian passport: you can book with a NAHCON-licensed operator that serves the diaspora, such as Kasfah Hajj Travels. Our guide to booking Hajj from Canada explains the process.
- As a citizen of a country in Europe, the Americas, Australia or New Zealand: you book through Nusuk Hajj, Saudi Arabia’s official platform for pilgrims from those regions, which registers pilgrims by country of residence.
- Living elsewhere: the rules depend on your country of residence, so check with the Hajj authority there or a licensed operator before you pay.
Requirements for Nigerian pilgrims
- Passport: valid for at least six months beyond your return date.
- Meningitis vaccine (ACYW): at least 10 days before arrival; a conjugate vaccine is valid for five years, a polysaccharide vaccine for three.
- Yellow fever: required for travellers from Nigeria; the certificate is valid for life.
- Polio: at least one IPV dose, given at least four weeks before arrival.
- Medical fitness: you’ll need a fitness certificate from an approved hospital. Saudi Arabia doesn’t permit pilgrims with conditions such as major organ failure, dementia, a high-risk or late pregnancy, active tuberculosis or cancer under active treatment.
- Age: pilgrims from abroad must be at least 12.
NAHCON publishes Saudi Arabia’s health requirements for Hajj pilgrims each season, so check the latest version.
What’s changing for Hajj 2027
- More Hajj through private operators. Saudi Arabia is moving Hajj services to a business-to-business model, and around 30% of Nigeria’s pilgrims are expected to move to it in 2027, with the rest following over about three years.
- The cheapest package grade is going. Saudi Arabia is scrapping its lowest service grade, which could push costs up.
- Earlier deadlines. Saudi Arabia now sets firm dates for contracts, payments and pilgrim data, months before Hajj. Late payments can mean losing your place.
