Frequently Asked Questions About Your Saudi Visa
How do I get a Saudi visa for Umrah?
There are two main routes. If your passport qualifies for Saudi Arabia’s tourist eVisa (Canada, the US and the UK all do), you can apply online through the official eVisa portal and use it for Umrah. Otherwise, you’ll need a dedicated Umrah visa, which is only issued once your hotel is registered on the Nusuk platform. You can get one by booking directly on Nusuk Umrah if your country is eligible, or through a licensed Umrah provider. Our team can check which route fits your passport.
Can I do Umrah with a tourist visa?
Yes. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirms that all visa types, including the tourist eVisa, can be used for Umrah. You’ll still need to book your Umrah permit through the Nusuk app. The one exception is the Hajj period: from 1 Dhu al-Qi’dah to 14 Dhu al-Hijjah each year, tourist and visit visa holders can’t enter Makkah, and Umrah permits are suspended.
Do Canadians need a visa for Umrah?
Yes, but Canadian citizens can apply online. Canada is on Saudi Arabia’s tourist eVisa list. The eVisa is valid for one year with multiple entries, allows stays of up to 90 days, and can be used for Umrah outside the Hajj period. US and UK citizens qualify the same way. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.
How can Nigerians get an Umrah visa?
Nigeria isn’t on Saudi Arabia’s tourist eVisa list, so most Nigerian passport holders need a dedicated Umrah visa arranged through a licensed Umrah provider. There’s one exception: if you hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa that you’ve already used to enter that country, or permanent residency in the US, UK or EU, you can apply for the eVisa instead. Visa issuance for Nigerians was paused during the 2025 Hajj period, so plan your Umrah outside that window.
What documents are required for an Umrah visa?
You’ll need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure, a recent passport-style photo, and a confirmed hotel booking registered on Nusuk, which has been required for the Umrah visa since June 2025. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health also requires every Umrah pilgrim to show proof of meningococcal ACYW vaccination. Travellers from Nigeria need a yellow fever certificate and a polio (IPV) dose given at least four weeks before arrival. Health insurance is included in the visa fee.
How long does an Umrah visa take to process?
Saudi Arabia doesn’t publish a fixed processing time. Tourist eVisas are often issued online within hours, though this isn’t guaranteed. A dedicated Umrah visa takes longer, because your hotel must be registered on Nusuk before the visa can be issued. Don’t apply too early either: since November 2025, an Umrah visa is cancelled automatically if you don’t enter Saudi Arabia within 30 days of it being issued.
How long is an Umrah visa valid?
Once your Umrah visa is issued, you must enter Saudi Arabia within 30 days, and you can then stay for up to 90 days. Your stay also can’t go past the season’s final departure date, which the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah sets before each Hajj. The tourist eVisa works differently: it’s valid for one year with multiple entries, and each stay can last up to 90 days.
How much is an Umrah visa?
Visa fees are set by the Saudi government and shown at checkout on the official portal. The tourist eVisa is widely reported at about SAR 535, including the mandatory health insurance. If you book through an Umrah provider, the visa is usually included in your package price. Our Umrah packages can include your visa alongside flights and hotels.
Can I do Hajj with a tourist visa?
No. Only a Hajj visa allows you to perform Hajj; tourist, visit and Umrah visas don’t. From 1 Dhu al-Qi’dah to 14 Dhu al-Hijjah, visit visa holders can’t enter or stay in Makkah. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior can fine violators up to SAR 20,000, deport them and ban them from entering the Kingdom for 10 years.
How do I get a Hajj visa from Canada or Nigeria?
If you live in Canada, the US or the UK, you register on Nusuk Hajj, Saudi Arabia’s official Hajj platform, and book a package from an authorized provider. Your visa is issued with the package, and registering doesn’t guarantee a place. In Nigeria, Hajj visas go through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), either via your State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board or a NAHCON-licensed tour operator. Nigerians living abroad should check their eligibility on Nusuk Hajj for their country of residence. See our Hajj packages for current options.
